We are here to care for your pets, in sickness and in health
Dr Emma Pettet, Dr Daniel Pettet and Dr Kate New Tolley are all highly experienced veterinarians with a love of both people and pets. If you have any concerns about your pet, book them an appointment for a thorough exam and full discussion of options and treatments.

Microchipping your pet is incredibly important - it means if they go missing and are taken to any council or veterinary facility, they can be scanned and you can be contacted right away.  Microchipping is also a requirement of Glenorchy Council.

Vaccinations are critical to keeping your pet healthy.  Every vaccination is accompanied by a full heath check by the vet, so feel free to take advantage of the chance to ask any questions, and bring up any concerns you may have at your pet's annual vaccination and check up. Remember, a year is a long time in a pet's life, so a careful annual examination is important both for their health and your peace of mind.

We have a fully equipped surgery and highly trained staff, with a strong focus on patient care. We are very experienced in all routine surgeries, and have good relationships with local specialists whose services we can call in when necessary.

We are not professional pet groomers, but we understand that there are some pets out there who just can't cope with the stress of a visit to the pet-hairdresser, no matter how badly they need it.  In such circumstances we will happily offer sedation and clipping in the clinic.

If you have an emergency outside of normal hours, the best care your pet can get is provided by a fully staffed local emergency hospital.  This is called the After Hours Veterinary Emergency Centre (AHVEC) and is found on the corner of Derwent Park Rd and Chesterman St, Moonah. Their number is  1300 302 912. They are open all night, all weekend, and all public holidays.

In pets, as in people, dental health is critical to overall health and wellbeing. At Claremont Vets all our staff are happy to examine and adivse you on your pet's dental condition, and our clinic is equipped with sophisticated dental tools to provide them with the best possible care.

We have a state of the art ultrasound machine and digital xray suite so if your pet needs on-the-spot imaging or if you have a pregnant bitch expecting a happy event, we can help.

Our names are Emma and Daniel Pettet, and we are both vets, with over twenty years of experience between us.  CLAREMONT VETERINARY SURGERY is the realisation of a long held dream for us.  While working in many different clinics all over the world, we developed many ideas about the kind practice we would like to create some day.  A clinic where patients and their owners could receive excellent care and with a personal touch.   We have now settled locally with our two small girls and a mini-menagerie of pets!

We are also excited to welcome aboard Dr Kate New-Tolley, who has recently relocated to beautiful Tasmania, and has special interests in small animal medicine, veterinary ultrasonography, and the great outdoors.  On Thursdays, we are lucky enough to welcome Dr Scott Linanne, another friendly and experienced team member helping us care for your pets.

Our vision

Our goal is to provide excellent care to pets, and friendly personalised help and advice to their owners.  We know what a stressful time it can be when your pet is unwell.  We believe in taking the time to explain and discuss problems, and to offer various treatment options, always doing our best to convey the risks and benefits of each one.  We want everyone who walks through the door at Claremont Vets to feel welcomed, and we want every pet to have the best 'Vet Experience' possible, whether they are coming for a worming tablet or staying for major surgery.

Our team

To help us achieve this, we are really excited to be joined by  Kerrie, Kathryn, Chantelle, Stella, Kayla and Courtney - six highly experienced and caring veterinary nurses, all of whom have beloved pets of their own.

Everyone who works at CLAREMONT VETERINARY SURGERY is proud of where we live.  We believe it's good for everyone when local businesses actively engage in the local community, and that's why we sponsor Claremont Football Club and volunteer with several local community groups. We also support the Dog's Home of Tasmania and Hobart Feline Rescue with food drives, calendar sales, donation collections, and animal care.

Modern facilities

CLAREMONT VETERINARY SURGERY has been specifically designed to serve the needs of our patients, with designated consulting rooms, a well-equipped treatment room, a sterile surgery, digital xray, ultrasound, in-house diagnostics lab, isolation ward (for the containment of infectious diseases), and pharmacy.  Click on the link above if you want to take a virtual tour!

After hours emergencies

If your pet requires urgent care after hours, we refer to AHVEC, the after hours veterinary emergency centre, in Moonah (1300 302 912).  They are open and fully equipped to deal with all small animal emergencies all night, all weekend, and all public holidays. They can be found on the corner of Chesterman St and Derwent Park Road in Moonah.

Come on down!

Please come in and introduce yourself if you happen to be passing by.  We look forward to meeting you and your furry family members.
